IES 2012 Exam is scheduled to be held from 15th June 2012 onward for 3 days and UPSC has issued a notification in this regard. As per the notice, the UPSC Engineering Service Examination 2012 which is also commonly known as the Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam is going to be held across the country and the online registration is currently in progress since 10th March 2012. As such, interested candidates can apply for any of the 4 categories available such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication engg. The IES Exam 2012 will be conducted for the recruitment of candidates to as many as 560 posts which also includes 47 vacancies available for PH category but the total number of available posts may be altered and are not final.


IES 2012 Examination - Application Procedure

To apply IES 2012 Exam online, you need to visit the official website of Union Public Service Commission i.e. www.upsconline.nic.in where the IES 2012 exam online application form can be found in two parts. The first part of the registration process can be completed by entering correct and relevant information about Personal Details and Educational Qualification as asked therein and then obtain the Registration ID (RID) on successful submission of the form. You can then proceed to the Part II Registration and provide the RID and birth date to continue. The applicants need not submit any hard copy of the online submitted form or any other documents to prove the eligibility criteria and the same would be verified later by the commission either before or after the written examination and interview. The applicants should be careful enough while making their choice of examination centre and engineering discipline while applying as they may not be allowed to make changes in preference thereafter.

The candidates belonging to the caste and categories of Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes/Female/Physically Handicapped are exempted from paying the application fee while all others have to pay an amount of Rs.100/- in full either by cash in State Bank of India or via online payment using netbanking or otherwise use the debit/credit cards having the Visa/Master logo to pay IES Exam 2012 application fee. IES 2012 Syllabus and Examination Pattern

The exam pattern is divided into two sections which includes Objective Papers as one part and Conventional Papers as the second section. The objective papers consists of General Ability Test (General English & General Studies) and the two papers of the respective engineering discipline. The Conventional paper also has two papers of the engineering discipline as applicable where each paper carries the maximum marks of 200. The Objective Papers of IES Exam 2012 will have exam duration of 2hrs while that of the Conventional Papers is 3hrs.

It may also be found on the commission's website as well as leading newspapers of the country. In addition to the syllabus, all other important details like special instruction about the objective/conventional test, sample answer sheets, help on filling the online application form, eligibility criteria etc can be found. The last date for applying to this examination is 9th April 2012 and the online application link will be disabled at 11.59 p.m. on that day.
