Facebook and Twitter are the two most popular social networks at the present time and daily millions of users across the globe access it and stays connected through these platforms. People are seen to be addicted towards it or has found a new way to socialize themselves using the internet technology. However, no matter whether it is good or a bad idea to use such social networks for prolonged period of time but regular users cannot restrict themselves from accessing it and updating their status or commenting on each other's wall. The only barrier that may sometime play spoilsport for such people is the slow or faulty internet connection which is very common among the Indian towns and cities. To solve this problem among the Indian users, Airtel has come up with a new and unique service which allows one to use Facebook and Twitter from the mobile phone without requiring any internet connection like GPRS, EDGE or 3G connection. People can now make use of its USSD service to use any of these social networking sites almost free of cost by simply dialing a specific number.
In case of accessing Facebook from mobile without internet connection, Airtel allows users to update the status for free whereas there are some paid services too that enables one to have access to additional services like the convenience to receive news feeds, posting on walls, sending friend requests and using other features on payment of a nominal charge of Rs.1/- per day. There is also a similar approach to use Twitter that facilitates to update the tweets through use of this facility. The predefined numbers for these services are given below:-
- For Facebook : Dial *325# and follow on-screen instructions.
- For Twitter : Dial *515# to update tweets and use its features.
It must be noted here that Airtel already provides some good data package for accessing Internet while on the move and is also known for its quality of service. It costs only Rs.98 for 2GB data download and it can be used to surf any website and other related services on the web without any restrictions which can also be connected to a PC or Laptop to have real surfing experience. However, the above mentioned USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Services Data) by Airtel for Facebook and Twitter can come handy at times as speed of internet generally fluctuates in India on almost all networks. Hence, this over-the-air service that allows one to update their Facebook status or post tweets directly from the mobile device on Airtel network can really be helpful for all those extreme users who never wish to miss the fun. You wont pay anything for updating status using this service but for anything else in the pack, you will be charged Rs.1 per day or Rs.30 per month which still sounds cheap enough.
