Assam High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examinations - Overview & Snapshot of Students Performance (Last 10 Years)

Being considered as one of the most important examinations in a students career, the HSLC exams in Assam is being held in the state regularly every year since last 45 years or more. It was earlier known as the Matriculation exam which was conducted by University but from the year 1963, it came to be known as High School Leaving Certificate Examinations. The matric exam earlier had a very different pattern and consisted of about 1000 total marks and only 10 ranked positions. But today as competition increased and the courses are upgraded to follow the latest trends, the number of ranks were increased to 20 and the total marks was also reduced to 600. It became much easier to score marks now-a-days as compared to the situation that prevailed few decades back and hence the competitiveness among the students got a high lift. The table below well explains how the students are striving to obtain good ranks and marks which sometimes crossed all barriers and even when the total number of ranks is available for 20 positions, they are now occupied by hundreds whereas many others miss to get listed for just a single mark only.

Last year, the highest number of students were able to get into the Top 20 Ranks and with it the number of students who got the Star Marks and Distinction also improved. Looking into this, the positive changes in this years statistics of the HSLC results can be well expected and most probably the rank tally would mount to new heights.
