Kaziranga National Park - The best Tourist Spot in Assam and North East India

Kaziranga is one of the most famous wildlife Sanctuary in India and is the pride of Assam. It is stretched through two districts in Assam namely Golaghat and Nagaon. Established on 1905 as a reserved forest, the sanctuary is surrounded with thick grass and tropical forests. Kaziranga is rich in wildlife and also different species of birds among which some of the widely popular birds and wildlife which can be seen in the sanctuary are that of the world famous one-horned rhino’s, wild buffaloes, the Asian elephant, deer and many other important species. It has also been considered as a bird-sanctuary. This park consists of 429.23 sq.km with also additional area adding up to 429.40 sq.km. Kaziranga has also been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO on 11th of February 1974.

The best season to visit the sanctuary is during the month of November till February and this is when one can enjoy the wildlife in its full form during these season. Bird lovers can view some of the most sought after birds among which some of the names that can be mentioned in this regards are black necked Stork, Asian openbill stork, Baers Pochard duck, white bellied Heron, Blyth’s Kingfisher, Eastern Imperial, Pallas Fish Eagle, the Great Indian Hornbill and many more and hence it turns out to be a delight for bird lovers and a paradise.

Besides the birds, the place is also famous for some of the rare species of fishes found here. The sanctuary is also full of snakes and pythons out of which the Rock pythons, Reticulated pythons, Monocled cobra, Russell’s viper and King cobras are among the species found here. The park is full of grasslands, woodlands and tropical forest which serve as a perfect place for the snakes and mammals found here.

One can reach here by the State Transport as the place is well connected with Guwahati and Tezpur. One can also reach via Guwahati airport to Tezpur as it is the nearest airport available from the state capital. Tourist can hire elephant guide which will provide a thrilling experience while visiting the wildlife park. There are even jeep’s available if one cannot get the elephant guide. The sanctuary management has built tourist tower at Foliamari, Sohola, Harmoti, Kathpara and Mihimukh to provide exciting view of the sanctuary for the tourist. The visitors are also provided with the Tourist Lodge facility at Kohora and also within the premises of the park by the Government of Assam (Tourism Department). People can also find private lodge as an alternative as the place is quite popular and frequently visited which thereby results in more demands for such private tourist lodge.

The Kaziranga National Park is a perfect gateway for wildlife enthusiast of the world as it houses some of the rarest species which one can see here. Also the place is blessed with mother nature as one can be close to nature whereas people coming to this region in India can also see some of the unique culture and heritage of the state and can also taste some of the best traditional food available here.
