Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is one of of the most renowned face of Assam who has succeeded in registering many achievements during his long career as a singer, music composer or director, actor and a poet. His contribution towards the Assamese culture and music industry is invaluable and will remain in the hearts of every people of Assam and also other parts of the world where his contribution has been accepted as being of the highest repute. He was able to win the hearts of many with his unmatchable melody and brilliant masterpieces which he delivered during his career and is still continuing to be one of those rarest artist to have the expertise of being a great ballad or mass singer of the country.


Childhood and Educational Career


He came into existence in 1926 when he was born at a small town called Sadiya located within the Tinsukia district of Assam. He got involved with the art of singing and music composition as a child prodigy when he was only 10 years of age after which he never looked backed and contributed in many plays which includes Indramati that was released on 1939 as an Assamese talkie.

He also shares a very glorious educational background which includes his graduation in Arts stream that he completed way back in 1944 from Banaras Hindu University after which he also claimed the Masters of Arts in Political Science on the year 1946. He was awarded the Doctorate degree from the Columbia University in New York for his desertion in Mass Communication titled as "Proposals for Preparing India's Basic Education to Use Audio-Visual Techniques in Adult Education".

He also tried his hands on journalism where he worked as both a journalist and editor and was quite successful and popular in that role too. He was associated with Amar Pratinidhi and Pratidhwani where he penned down many articles and poems therein.

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika composed and has lent his voice in many song titles for a number of films and music albums and has contributed in multiple languages such as Assamese, Bengali and Hindi. Some of his most popular and evergreen assamese songs can be mentioned as Bistirno Parore, Mahabahu Brahmaputra, Manuhe Manuhar Babe, Jodihe Okono Nabhabe etc.

His song Dil Hoom Hoom Kare from the film Rudaali was another greatest hit-song being sung by him. Also, his contribution in Bengali hit films such as Mahut Bandhure, Jiban Trishna etc. was highly acclaimed by all his fans and music admirers. He also worked for many Hindi movies like Gajagamini, Saaz and so on where he was able to bag appreciations from all quarters.
